Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of food packaging machines at PT XYZ Batam City using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness and Six Big Losses methods. The research problem arises from high machine downtime, low production performance, and an increasing number of defective products, causing the company’s production targets to not be achieved. The research method was conducted through the collection of production and maintenance data from January to December 2025, which were then analyzed using availability rate, performance efficiency, quality rate, OEE calculations, and identification of the dominant factors of Six Big Losses. The results showed that the availability value was 97.00%, performance efficiency was 87.49%, quality rate was 98.29%, and the OEE value was 83.42%, which is still below the JIPM standard of 85%. The dominant factors causing low machine effectiveness were breakdown losses of 31.45%, reduced speed losses of 24.73%, and idling and minor stoppages of 18.64%. Therefore, companies need to implement scheduled maintenance through periodic inspection, lubrication, calibration, and replacement of critical components, as well as involving operators in autonomous maintenance.
